How it works

  1. 1

    Free Consultation

Book your first visit online. A certified medical aesthetician reviews your skin and hair type, walks through what to expect, and confirms the right device settings for your Fitzpatrick skin tone. No commitment — most clients book their first session at the end of the consult.

  2. 2

    Patch Test

Before your first full session, we test a small area with the selected laser settings and confirm your skin responds well. This catches any sensitivity before we treat a larger area and gives both you and us confidence in the plan.

  3. 3

    Treatment Series

Sessions are spaced 4–6 weeks apart to catch each hair follicle in its active growth phase. Most areas finish in 15–30 minutes per session. You can return to normal activity immediately — no downtime, no recovery period. Track your progress between sessions; visible reduction is usually noticeable after session 3.

Frequently asked questions

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation as a brief warm snap — similar to a rubber band flicking the skin — that resolves immediately. Smaller, more sensitive areas (upper lip, bikini line) can feel sharper than less sensitive ones (legs, arms). The GentleMax Pro’s built-in Dynamic Cooling protects and soothes the skin with each pulse, so most clients tolerate sessions without any numbing cream.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients see dramatic, visible reduction after a full 5-session course spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Some areas with denser or hormonally-influenced growth — chin, upper lip, abdomen — benefit from our 8-session Results Guarantee package. Single sessions reduce growth temporarily but rarely produce lasting results on their own. Your free consultation will recommend the right course for your hair and skin type.

Is it safe for darker skin tones?

Yes. The GentleMax Pro’s dual wavelengths — Alexandrite (755nm) and Nd:YAG (1064nm) — let our providers safely treat the full Fitzpatrick scale (I–VI), including darker skin tones that older single-wavelength lasers couldn’t. Your free consultation includes a patch test to confirm the safest, most effective settings before your first full session. We never run a full session without confirming the patch test result first.

What should I do before my appointment?

Shave the treatment area 12–24 hours before your session — do not wax, pluck, or use depilatory creams for at least 4 weeks before your appointment (the laser needs the hair root intact in the follicle). Avoid direct sun exposure on the treatment area for 2 weeks before your session, and skip self-tanner and exfoliating treatments like glycolic peels for at least a week beforehand. Arrive with clean, product-free skin.

Can I shave between sessions?

Yes — shaving between sessions is fine and recommended. What you cannot do is wax, pluck, or use epilating depilatory creams between sessions. The laser targets the hair follicle root; if you pull the hair out, there’s nothing for the next session to treat. Stick to shaving (or topical depilatory creams that dissolve the surface hair only) between appointments.

What are the side effects?

Most clients experience mild redness or warmth in the treated area for a few hours after a session — similar to a mild sunburn — that resolves with a cold compress. Less common: small temporary bumps around treated follicles for 24–48 hours. Rare: temporary skin lightening or darkening, especially in clients with darker skin tones — which is why we patch-test first. Serious side effects are very rare with medical-grade equipment.

Will it work on hormonally-influenced hair growth?

For most clients, yes — but areas like chin, upper lip, and abdomen (for some clients with PCOS or thyroid-related hair growth) often need our Results Guarantee package rather than a 5-pack. Hormones can stimulate dormant follicles long after a treatment course, which is why our Results Guarantee includes free maintenance sessions if you haven’t reached your target reduction. Discuss any hormonal conditions during your consultation.

How long do the results last?

After a full course, most clients see 70–95% permanent reduction in hair growth. Some maintenance sessions every 12–24 months may be needed to address regrowth from previously dormant follicles, especially in hormonally-influenced areas. Our 5-session package is enough for most clients to achieve lasting results; our 8+ session Results Guarantee covers any necessary follow-ups in the included sessions.

About this treatment

Laser hair removal is one of the most-requested treatments at Canada MedLaser, and for good reason: it’s effective across skin tones, the results are long-lasting, and the procedure is well-tolerated by most clients.

How the technology works. Our clinics use the GentleMax Pro by Candela — a medical-grade laser platform with two wavelengths in one device: the Alexandrite laser (755nm) for lighter skin and finer hair, and the Nd:YAG laser (1064nm) for darker skin tones and coarser hair. Laser energy is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft, heating and disabling the follicle without damaging the surrounding skin. A built-in Dynamic Cooling Device protects and soothes the skin with each pulse. Because hair grows in cycles — only ~20% of follicles in any area are active at one time — multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart are needed to catch each follicle in its active growth phase.

Recommended treatment course. For most clients, 5 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart produces dramatic, visible reduction. Areas with denser growth (legs, back) or hormonally-influenced growth (chin, upper lip, abdomen for some clients) may benefit from our Results Guarantee package of 8+ sessions. Single sessions are available but rarely sufficient on their own.

Who’s a good candidate. Because the GentleMax Pro offers two wavelengths, our certified providers can safely tailor treatment to the full Fitzpatrick scale (I–VI) — from very fair to deeply pigmented skin. Your free consultation includes a patch test on a small area to confirm the right wavelength and settings for your skin and hair combination before your first full session.

Make the most of your appointment

  • Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your session — don’t wax, pluck, or epilate, as the follicle needs to be intact for the laser to work.
  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner for at least 2 weeks before your appointment.
  • Stop using Vitamin A / retinol products on the treatment area about 1 week prior.
  • Come with clean skin — no lotion, deodorant, oil, or makeup on the area being treated.
  • Let your provider know about any new medications, skin changes, or sun exposure since your last visit.
  • Mild redness or warmth around the follicles is normal and usually settles within a few hours.
  • Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours.
  • Keep the treated area out of direct sun and apply SPF 30+ daily.
  • Don’t pick, scratch, or aggressively exfoliate the area while it’s sensitive.
  • Hold off on retinol and other active topicals on the area for a few days.
  • Complete your full recommended course — sessions are spaced 4–6 weeks apart to catch each follicle in its active growth phase.
  • Keep up daily SPF between sessions to protect your skin and your results.
  • Between sessions, shaving is fine — but avoid waxing, plucking, or epilating.
  • Book your next session before you leave so your spacing stays on track.
